China launches Mini SSD memory card format, with the opportunity to compete with Micro SD Express

The headquarters of Biwin, a technology company headquartered in Shenzhen, China, recently announced the launch of a new data format called Mini SSD. The difference between this solution and similar products is its size, that is, it is 0.59×0.67×0.06 inches (15.0 mm×17.0 mm×1.4 mm), which is about half the size of an EUR dollar. It is similar to a microSD card and is only slightly larger than a Nano SIM card.
According to Chinese media reports, despite the small size, the performance of Mini SSD is not discounted. It uses PCIe Gen4X2 and NVMe 1.4 storage technology, and can theoretically provide reading speeds up to 3,700 MB/s and write speeds up to 3,400 MB/s. This technology goes far beyond traditional SD cards and is even more advantageous than the new generation of SD Express formats, bringing mobile devices an extremely fast-speed experience comparable to desktop computer SSDs.
In addition, Mini SSD's capacity will offer a variety of options ranging from 512 GB to 2TB, with IP68-grade waterproof and dustproof capabilities, as well as 3 meters of fall protection and advanced heat management capabilities, ensuring high durability and reliability in strict environments. This technology provides an innovative solution for industries that require high speed, high efficiency and durability storage to handle key task execution.
Another highlight of Mini SSD in design is its unique insertion method. It is designed to be plugged into the device in a SIM tray and equipped with a dedicated pop-up button, which is completely different from most small SSDs on the market today, depending on the M.2 screw installation system. This innovative insertion and bouncing method not only simplifies user operations, but also ensures that the storage unit can be stored safely and securely inside the device, greatly improving the convenience and security of user experience.
Baiwei Technology emphasizes that Mini SSD's reading speed and storage space provide innovative solutions for industries that need to handle large-scale key tasks and have strict requirements on high-speed, high efficiency and high durability storage. In today's mobile-first computing world, the emergence of Mini SSD is undoubtedly huge, which allows mobile devices to greatly expand their internal storage capacity without sacrificing speed.
However, Mini SSD's road to market success is still full of variations. First of all, its pricing has not been announced yet, which will directly affect its market acceptance. Second, and the most important point is whether this format will become an opening standard in the future. If Mini SSDs remain authorized, most tech brands are likely to choose to avoid it, and therefore may repeat the override of the PlayStation Vita memory card format.
Currently, Mini SSD has received support in two Chinese consumer technology products, namely on the GPD Win 5 game handheld computer and OneNetbook OneXPlayer Super X PC. In the gaming field, Mini SSD will compete fiercely with the rising Micro SD Express storage format. Whether it can successfully challenge and transcend existing formats and become the future mainstream of mobile storage remains to be seen.
