TA: Villa midfielder Amadou Onana suffered a hamstring injury and will miss the Belgian World Cup qualifiers
The Athletic reported that Aston Villa midfielder Amadu Onana suffered a hamstring injury and will miss Belgium's upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Several sources confirmed to The Athletic on Wednesday that Amadu Onana was forced to leave the field after being injured during training that day, and he underwent a scan on Wednesday afternoon to determine the injury. The Belgian international's injury coincided with similar problems with teammate Bubakar Kamala, who suffered a hamstring injury in Villa's 0-1 loss to Brentford last week and is expected to be out for at least two weeks.
Onana's injury means he will miss Belgium's match against Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan, and coach Rudy Garcia has confirmed the injury of the player. San Giros midfielder Charles Van Hott will replace him for the national team and will go out with Onana's club teammate Tilemans.
Garcia explained: "The competition in the midfield position is fierce, but he (Van Hot) deserves this opportunity. Due to Onana's injury, we need to supplement our physical confrontation ability, and he is able to provide this."
Villa scored only 1 point in the first two rounds of the season and temporarily ranked 17th in the league. Coach Emery admitted at the pre-match press conference to face Crystal Palace that this result was disappointing.
The Spanish coach said: "Our season starts a disappointing start. We only scored one point from six points. Even if we remain unbeaten at home, we still need to reflect on the issue of losing points at home last year, especially the situation of multiple consecutive draws."
