Veteran goalkeeper Carson, who played for Manchester City at the end of his career, officially announced his retirement today. He also played for Liverpool when he was young and was included in the 2005 Champions League final. He served as Liverpool's substitute goalkeeper in that game but did not appear.

With Carson's retirement, all players on the two teams' rosters for the 2005 Istanbul Night have officially hung up their boots.

In that thrilling classic battle, Maldini blitzed in the first minute, and Crespo scored twice in the 39th and 44th minutes, helping Milan establish a 3-0 lead at halftime. The championship seemed destined. Changing sides and fighting again, Gerrard got a goal back in the 54th minute, Schmitzer scored another goal in the 56th minute, and Xabi Alonso hit the equalizer in the 60th minute. Neither side achieved anything in overtime. As Shevchenko missed a penalty, Liverpool won the penalty shootout 3-2.
