Telegraph: Palinha’s offensive statistics are better than his defense, Frank and Amorim both recognize his ability

After joining Tottenham from Bayern, Palinha had some highlight performances, and the "Daily Telegraph" commented on his performance.
Although Palinha is controversial in the eyes of some, coaches from Tottenham and Manchester United have expressed their approval. According to Thomas Frank, Palinha is someone Tottenham can rely on in difficult moments, with Saturday's opponents manager Amorim also convinced of the midfielder's abilities. Frank did not ask Amorim about Palinha's situation, but directly contacted Fulham's backroom staff. Amorim coached Palinha in Portugal at Braga and Sporting CP and called him a "special player".
However, not everyone agrees so. "Daily Telegraph" columnist Carragher questioned whether Palinha has the ability to play for the ambitious Tottenham Hotspur. Palinha has performed well in games such as the away game against Manchester City, but some fans and critics believe his style is too conservative when he struggles at home.
Palinha's offensive data is even better than defensive, but he does have problems with ball control. Among seven Premier League midfielders in a similar position, Palinha ranks last in terms of chances created and pass success rate. Carragher pointed to Palinha's inability to provide penetrating passing as the reason why he was not signed by other Premier League clubs and failed to establish himself at Bayern. Palinha performed well in terms of goal efficiency, tied with Hrafenberch as the best, and had the most touches in the opponent's penalty area. Defensively, Palinha has far more steals per 90 minutes (4.4) than any other opponent, and is second only to Kamara in terms of ground confrontation. However, he ranks last in interceptions and ball recovery.
It is understood that although Bayern is willing to rent out Palinha, other clubs have limited interest in him during the summer transfer period. Tottenham believed that Palinha had proven his strength in the Premier League and decided to act quickly to pay the loan fee of 4.3 million pounds and agreed to bear all of his wages. It also has the option to buy out for 27 million pounds next summer.
Palinha's signing may hint at the departure of former chairman Levy, because he has been reluctant to sign players over 30 years old, especially loan players. Tottenham's recruitment strategy this summer is mainly to sign players who can immediately improve the strength of the first team. Palinha's experience and age are exactly what they need.
