Mourinho: I will focus on winning the Premier League without distractions. Chelsea is where I win the Premier League three times
Benfica will play away against Chelsea in the Champions League. Before the game, Benfica coach Mourinho talked about topics such as returning to the Blue Bridge and his coaching career.
About returning to the Champions League stadium
Even if I haven't played in the Champions League for several years, I did not have a bad life. After all, I led the team to play the finals of the Europa League and the Europa League. The Champions League is obviously the highest-level stage, bringing together all the top European giants. This means a lot to me, because if winning once is everyoneβs dream, then it would be even more wonderful to win twice.
I am very lucky in my career and have coached many giants: Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Chelsea. Benfica is also a wealthy family. Coaching a wealthy family means huge responsibilities and huge expectations, and in all aspects it is huge. But that's exactly the kind of challenge I need.
About fighting Chelsea again
I always seem to be facing the old master in my life. When he left Porto, his first European game to coach Chelsea was against Porto; when he coached Inter Milan, he even fought with Barcelona, ββwhere I was an assistant coach countless times. Later as Fenerbahce's head coach, I also played against Manchester United and Benfica.
Chelsea is where I won the Premier League three times, and Chelsea and I made history together. Chelsea is part of my history, and I am part of Chelsea's history. But this is football, they want to win, and I want to win too. Before and after the game, of course I knew where I was, but during the 90 minutes of the game, I had the ability to put aside all this and focus on the competition.
About how to maintain the desire to win
If one day, I wake up in the morning and go to work, if one day, I can't feel joy after winning, and I can't feel sad after losing; if all this changes, it will be a warning red light for me.
I remember a Champions League match between Manchester United and Real Madrid. At that time, I coached Real Madrid and Sir Ferguson coached Manchester United. Before the game I asked him in his office: "Jazz, the tension before the game and the soaring adrenaline, will this feeling change over time?" He replied: "No, never. It's the same until the last moment." More than ten years have passed, and my feelings are still the same.
About coaching self-growth
I am better now than in the past. I think the more you experience in the coaching industry, the stronger you will become. I find that my biggest difference is that I might be more self-centered when I first entered the industry, but now I have changed...I feel like I am becoming more selfless. I feel that I am devoted to football more to achieve others, not to achieve myself. I am here to help my players, not to think about what my own life will be like. I think more about clubs and more about the joy of the fans than I personally.
Evaluation about the outside world
I never consider myself a genius. Maybe he is a "little provoker", but he is definitely not a devil. genius? Never before. Of course, I always felt that I had some innate talents and developed them into great coaches through hard work, as did many great players.
There are indeed some games in my coaching career, and I think I won it; because before or during the game, there are always some moments, some decisions and tactical deployments that can turn the world around. This will make you feel, "I won this game." But I never consider myself a genius. I always feel that I am part of the team, players are more important than me, and my responsibility is to help them.
About my honor room
I have a room in my house, like a museum, displaying some replicas of trophys, medals and jerseys. As I often say, the museum displays history and an untouchable past, but that is not a part of my daily life, not my present, nor my future. Today's me is today's me, not the past me. People judged my performance today.
I don't have much time and don't want to reminisce about the past. I don't have that time, and this doesn't fit my personality. I always say that they can take away everything I have, but no one can take away the history I have made. However, as long as you are still working and have ambitions, everything in the past will be meaningless.
