talkSPORT reported that Wilhel is a candidate for Plymouth head coach.

Former Arsenal midfielder Wilhel transformed into a coach after retirement in 2022. After coaching Arsenal's U18 echelon, the 33-year-old became the assistant coach of Norwich coach Torupp at the beginning of the 2024-25 season and officially entered the field of coaching the adult team.

Torup was fired in April, Wilhel took over the team temporarily and led the team to 1 win and 1 draw in two games. Norwich eventually failed to advance to the Premier League, while Plymouth was relegated to the League One.

Plymouth was coached by Wilhel's former England teammate Rooney at the beginning of the season, but the Manchester United legend was dismissed in January. Miron Musridge, who was invited from Segrabruges, then his form soared, but he still failed to prevent the team from being relegated. After the season, Musridge turned to the difficult German veteran Schalke 04, and the Plymouth coach position vacated Wilhelm as a candidate.
