Colostrum: It is important for newborn dogs
The newborn dog refers to a puppy who has just left the mother. He has no vision (it can open his eyes after 10 days) and no hearing (it can only be heard after 13 days), let alone standing upright and walking. For newborn dogs, mother's colostrum is very important!
The digestive organs of newborn dogs are not well developed and their digestive functions are not sound. It can only eat milk at the beginning. With the development of organs such as the gastrointestinal tract and further improvement of its functions, it gradually transitions to digesting other foods. Therefore, this constitutes the special nature of the requirements of the quality, shape, feeding methods and times of the puppies.
1. First of all, the main dietary source of freshly born puppies is colostrum. Colostrum refers to the milk secreted by the female dog on the first day. The female dog with a small number of litters secretes colostrum for a little longer. It is very important to have the newborn dog suck enough colostrum in order to get acquired immunity from the colostrum.
2. Colostrum contains up to 15% immunoglobulin, while only 0.05% to 0.11% in normal milk. According to the experiment, newborn puppies have only 29% immunity, and their immunity has increased to 77% after taking colostrum. The antibody concentration gradually decreased, which dropped to 45% after 1 week, 27% after 2 weeks, 16% after 3 weeks, and 8 weeks, and the antibody basically disappeared. Therefore, newborn dogs should be allowed to eat colostrum within 60 minutes after birth.
3. Colostrum contains high-quality protein and is also rich in vitamins. The content of vitamin A and vitamin C is 9 times that of normal milk, and vitamin D is 3 times that of normal milk. In addition, it also contains more magnesium, antioxidants, enzymes, hormones, etc., which have a mild and anti-disease effects and can promote the excretion of fetal stools.
In addition, the colostrum of dog mothers is very suitable for strengthening the physical fitness of puppies, generating calories and maintaining body temperature. Therefore, for newborn dogs, the mother's colostrum is very important!
