The whipworm disease in dogs is caused by the parasitization of fox hair nematode in the cecum of dogs. This occurs in all parts of our country. This disease mainly harms puppies and can cause death when infected seriously.

1. Causes of canine whipworm disease

1. The fox-haired nematode is milky white. The front part is slender and filamentous, which is the esophagus, accounting for about 2/3 of the total length of the insect body. The rear part is the body, short and thick. The body of the insect is 45-75 mm long, the rear of the female insect is blunt and straight, and the tail end of the male insect is curled.

2. The insect eggs that are excreted from the body with feces will develop into infectious insect eggs after about 3 weeks under suitable conditions. After the dog swallows the infectious eggs, the larvae hatch in the intestine, drill into the mucosa of the anterior small intestine, stay for 2 to 10 days, and then enters the cecum and develops into an adult.

2. Clinical symptoms of whipworm disease

1. Generally, infection does not show clinical symptoms;

2. During severe infection, acute or chronic enteritis may occur due to the deep drilling of the head of the insect body in the human mucosa;

3. Blood sucking of the insect body often leads to anemia in the sick dog;

3. Preventive measures for whipworm disease

1. Deworming: Phenolpyrimidine (hydroxypyrimidine) is a special medicine to eliminate whipworms. It is taken orally at 2 mg per kilogram of body weight, or mebendazole 100 mg per kilogram of body weight, twice a day, for 3-5 days. 2. Qinggu hygiene: Use the dry-sensitive properties of insect eggs to keep the kennel clean and dry and reduce the chance of infection.
